New Line of Axon Shrink Sleeve Applicators Incorporates Latest Technology and Open Standards

Date: September 28, 2010

Raleigh, NC - Axon, a division of Pro Mach, will introduce a new generation of mandrel style shrink sleeve applicators at Pack Expo 2010 in Chicago in Booth #S-851. The first two machines in the new Aurora(TM) applicator line offer speeds of 150 and 300 sleeves per minute, respectively, as well as the integration and operational advantages of the industry standard Packaging Machinery Language (PackML).

"The Aurora line incorporates state-of-the-art mechanical design with PackML programming and Allen-Bradley control technologies," said Brad Wegner, vice president and general manager of Axon. "This combination of design, programming, and control significantly shortened overall product development time, created an easily customizable modular platform, and resulted in high-performance servo-controlled applicators at world class price points."

Along with an extensive list of standard features, Axon offers a host of options for both Aurora units. This means customers only pay for the custom features their operations require.

Wegner said the company's focus on PackML was a key cost and performance strategy in the development of the Aurora line. PackML helped Axon software engineers create master programs that enable customization and shorten time to market. PackML standards simplify packaging machine operation and maintenance. PackML also helps to ensure faster and more trouble free integration with other PackML-based machines on the line.

The Aurora Prime model offers 150 sleeves per minute speed and Aurora Premium provides 300 sleeves per minute depending on the size and shape of the container. Lay flat sleeve size for both machines is from 50 to 200 mm, and cut length is from 35 to 200 mm. Material gauge is 40-70 microns and 1.3-3 mils. The applicators use Allen-Bradley color touch screen HMIs, PLCs, and communication hardware. Axon will also be demonstrating at Pack Expo Allen-Bradley's InSite services, which offers end users a suite of remote monitoring capabilities including surveillance, diagnostics, administration, knowledge, optimization, and visualization.
